The second petition of Priscilla Dodridge of Cullompton, Devon, Michaelmas 1649

To the hono[ura]ble Edmund Predeaux Esq[uire] one of the members of the bench of Comons & one of Justices of the peace for the countie of Devon.
The humble petic[i]on of Priscilla Doddridge of Colompton in the Countie of Devon Widow.
Sheweth that yo[u]r petic[ione]rs husband was a man that stood zelously affected to the Parlyam[en]ts p[ro]ceedings and the Parliam[en]ts forces haueinge occasion to rayse men for the safty of ye kingdome, & hee was very willinge vppon all occasions of service and served a souldier [sic.] vnder the Comaund of the Leuetenante Collonell Thomas Prowse att Madbury in this Countie and att Stratton in the Countie of Cornwall and dureinge all the first seidge of Exon hee was a souldier vnder the same Mr Prowses Comaunde in w[hi]ch seidge yo[u]r petic[ione]rs husband received a shott in the Arme by meanes thereof hee shortly afterwards died and left Two smale children voide of all comfort and releife except yt were the Charitable benevolences of well affected people and vpon their charitie they now liue and will (yf some speedy Co[u]rse shall not bee forthw[i]th taken for them) bee in greate want & penury
May yt therefore please yo[u]r honour to Consider of the poore and distressed condic[i]on of yo[u]r petic[ione]r & her 2 Children and to gr[an]t vnto them some speedy Co[u]rse for their releife & maintenance in their greate necessitie as shall seeme good to yo[u]r graue wisedome And yo[u]r petic[ione]r shall haue eu[er] iust cause to pray &c

Wee whose names are heare subscribed doe att the request of the petic[ione]r Certifie that the contente of her petic[i]on is very true to our seu[er]all knowledges And wee shall humbly desire you wil bee pleased to further the petic[ione]r as to yo[u]r wisdome shall be most Convenient for her and in soe doeinge you will doe a worke of Charitie and wil be a greate incourgm[en]te to others (yf need shall require) All w[hi]ch wee shall leaue to yo[u]r Considerac[i]on & shall remaine
