The second petition of Mary Thorpe of Fisherton Anger, Wiltshire, July 1660

<The humble petic[i]on of Mary Thorpe.>

To the King’s most Excellent Ma[jes]tie

The humble petic[i]on of Mary Thorpe Widowe late ye wife of John Thorpe late of Fisherton in the County of Wiltes[hire] dec[eas]ed

Humbly sheweth

That yo[u]r pet[itione]rs said husband was one of ye party that rose vnder ye Com[m]and of Col[one]l Penrudduck at Salisbury about 5 yeares since for ye Service & restorac[i]on of yo[u]r Sacred Ma[jes]ty but he being taken was sentenced to dye for ye same & was accordingly most barbarously Murthered whereby yo[u]r pet[itione]r lost not only all her estate but also ye keepeing of a workehouse or Bridewell at Fisherton Anger in ye said County whereof her husband had been Keeper in yo[u]r Royall Fathers time before ye late troubles vntill his death, & now yo[u]r friendlesse pet[itione]r with her six helplesse Children are exposed Harborlesse, & to ye meere charity of well disposed Christians

Shee therefore humbly beseecheth yo[u]r Ma[jes]ty to Confer vpon her ye place of Keeping ye said Workehouse for her life for ye subsistance of herselfe and Children yo[u]r pet[itione]r well vnderstanding how to discharge ye duty thereof

And she (as in duty bound) shall eu[er] pray &c.
