The petition of Julian Kittey, Jane Squire and Elizabeth Warden, all of Plymouth, Devon, Michaelmas 1649

The humble petition of Julian Kittey, Jane Squire & Elizabeth Warden.
Humbly shewing unto yo[u]r wor[shi]ps our great missery & poore estate that yo[u]r wor[shi]ps poore petitioners are left in by unhappie disoster w[hi]ch wee doo here Express in p[ar]ticuler to our great greevances
I Julian Kittey being a very poore woman haveing foure smale Children & destitute of meanes & of [illegible] besides indebted w[hi]ch are all greefes & my greatest missery I lost my husband in the p[ar]lament service & now have noe means to Releeve myself nor my poore Children, I was ordered by Mr Nicholes order for our releefe & for want of that wee are like to perish, my husband did belong to Maudling worke & there by accident came to his death.
I Julian Jane Squire doe make my greevances known unto yo[u]r wor[shi]ps my husband being a souldier under Leftennant Coronell Fitts was in the service kild leaveing me in a very poore Cause w[i]th a Charge that I am not able to subsist to Releeve them; there was dew to my husband at his death for his pay seaven poundes w[hi]ch yf I could have had that I would not have troubled yo[u]r wor[shi]ps but now mere neacessity furseth me to it to my great greefe.
I Elizabeth Warden sheweing my misery & poore estate my husband being hurted at Penneycumquick work & was under the <surgents> hand 14 weeks & soe died to my great greefe leaveing me Three Children haveing not meanes to Releeve myself nor poore Children. I am besides Indebted & people were to me hard harted now my Requeste to yo[u]r wor[shi]ps is that you would be pleased to take it into Consideration & to Commisserate our poore meane poore & low estate & that yo[u]r wor[shi]ps wil be pleased to settle & order that Course for us for some Releefe for ourselves & poore Children that wee may not pearish for want & in soe doeing wee shal be bound to pray for yo[u]r wor[shi]ps health, happiness & pr[os]perity this leaueing our selves to yo[u]r wor[shi]ps mercifull brests to be releeved doe w[i]th our humble dutyes & service take leave & shall ever Remaine yo[u]r wor[shi]ps servants to be Commaunded
