The petition on behalf of the children of John Sondiforth of Prestwich, Lancashire, 11 October 1649

To the Right wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of the peace at the Quarter Sessions of the peace houlden at Manchester the 11th of October 1649.

The humble petic[i]on of the [sic.] Robert Houlden a Churchwarden and Thomas Scoles Ouerseer of the poor within the parishe of Prestwich.

Humblie sheweth vnto yor good worshipps That one John Sondiforth late inhabitant within the said parishe of Prestwich did about 14 weeks agoe depart since goe ouer into Ireland to bee a souldier there and left his wife with two small Childrene to bee Chargeable to the said parishe of Prestwich (vnlesse Henrie Bright of Nantwich in the County of Chester Gardiner who married Alice Mother of the said John Sondiforth and grandmother of the said Childrene (being Able persons and of good estates) may bee Compelled to Relieue and maynetayne their said grandchildrene.

May it therefore please yor good worshipps to grant your order to enioyne the said Henrie Wright and Alice his said wife to Releiue and mayntayne their said two grandchildrene or to take what other Course which to your Wisdomes shall seeme most Convenient for their Reliefe and they will euer pray &c.
