The petition on behalf of James Baguley of Clotton, Cheshire, Easter 1658

To the worr[shi]pfull the Justices of Peace at this Present Sessions assembled
The humble petic[i]on of John Cooper of Clotton Butcher
<Sheweth>
That whereas a certaine penc[i]on of foure Nobles p[er] Ann[um] was heretofore granted vnto James Baguley late of Clotton afores[ai]d being a maimed Souldier, who late was lately called into Scotland leaueing one Boy behinde him (by name James Baguley) w[i]th yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r alloweing him the aforesaid penc[i]on of foure Nobles to maintaine the same Child which said sume is now denied by the Tre[asur]er to be to be paid vnles you since the said James Baguley is not at pr[e]sent w[i]thin this Com[m]on wealth of England whereby the Child is likely to be exposed to great Peniury and want (vnlesse in time by yo[u]r wor[shi]pps preuented) [illegible]
May it therefore please yo[u]r wor[shi]pps to grant yo[u]r order to the Trea[sure]rs of the County for Prison[e]rs & maimed souldiers to pay the aforesaid sume of foure Nobles p[er] Ann[um] to yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r for the Maintenance of the said Child & yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r shall eu[er] pray &c
