To the Justices of peace these

Whereas Grace Gryme, Marie Ogden, Ann Clegg, Ann Butterworth and Marie Cheetam haueing had heretofore in the late warrs their husbands slayne Some at Preston at Atterton fight and els wher. And are now in great distrees and want together with their poore Children: For whereas through the honorable Comittees they haue had Som relieffe heretofore Yet now for the Space of two yeres or thereaboute haue receiued nothinge: by means whereof they and their Children are now in great want and necessitie.

Wherefore wee whose names are Subscribed in the behalffe of these poore widdowes & their children desire that you would bee pleassed to bee their Furtherance what waie or how the[y] might attaine vnto their Former monthly allowance [several illegible words]. And to whom the[y] maie Seeke vnto for helpe. In this their great need and necessitie.

And they and will wee will pray for your worships health and prosperitie.
