The petition on behalf of Andrew Smith of Mere, Wiltshire, Hilary 1652

To the wor[shipfu]ll the Justices at the gen[e]ral Quarter Sessions of the Peace.

The humble pet[ition] of the inhabitance of Meere in the County of Wilts[hire].

Sheweth

That Andrew Smith of Meere aforesaid hath ben heretofore a souldier in the Parliam[en]t Army since w[hi]ch tyme he was bound for the service of Ireland And by reason of a grevious disease w[hi]ch he then had & as yet remaynes on him, he became vnfitt for the said service,

That the said Smith on Complaint to Collonell Ludlow gained an order of Sessions at Midsomer 1650 to receiue 3 s. 6 d. weekly of yo[u]r pet[itione]rs for & towards his mayntenance.

That vpon yo[u]r pet[itione]rs former petic[i]on, yo[u]r wor[shi]pps were pleased to allow vnto the Overseers of the p[ar]ish of Meere aforesaid 40 s. to be receiued of the Treasurer for Maymed souldiers for & towards the releife of the said Smith

And for that the said grevious disease continewes on the said Smith, & the bourden being soe greate vpon the said Inhabitance

Humbly therefore prayeth, That the order for the paym[en]t of the said forty shillings towards the mayntenance of the said Smith may be continewed And yo[u]r pet[itione]rs as in duty bound shall pray &c
