The petition of William Winpennye of Kelsall, Cheshire, Easter 1671

To the Right wor[shi]p[fu]ll his Ma[jes]t[y]s Justices of the Peace att the next Quarter Sessions held for the County of Chest[e]r 1671.

The humble petic[i]on of William Winpennye of Kelsall within the said Countie of Chest[e]r a very poore man.

<Humbly Sheweth>

That yo[u]r poore petic[i]on[e]r hath formerly for a longe tyme beene a Souldier in his late Ma[jes]t[y]s service kinge Charles the first of blessed memorie, vnder the Com[m]and of Captaine Norton in the Lord Byroms [sic.] Regiment, at Yorke, Boulton and Liverpoole and severall other places, att which tymes your petic[i]on[e]r receiveinge some hurts in his body and Cold in his lims is now become a Cripple and cannot stirre forth but vppon his Crutches and is altogeather vnable to worke or gett any thinge towards his releife and maintenance in this his sad Condic[i]on, and haueinge soe continued lame for a longe space hath spent all his estate and meanes in his & his wives and Childrens maintenance, and all hopes of succour and maintenance beinge wasted and gonne and yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r left wholly vnto the Charitable releife of well disposed people, doth in most humble manner in this his distressed Condic[i]on addresse himselfe vnto yo[u]r wor[shi]pps humbly prayinge that yow would bee pleased to take your poore petic[i]on[e]rs sad and deplorable Condic[i]on into yo[u]r wise and pittifull Considerac[i]ons.

And in mercie to grante vnto yo[u]r poore petic[i]on[e]r some yearely penc[i]on as shall seeme best vnto yo[u]r wisdomes to releife and succour him in this his soe sad Condic[i]on who otherwise must vnavoydably famish and perrish for wante of releife & maintenance and yo[u]r poore petic[i]on[e]r with his wife & Children shall ever (as in dutie bound) heartily pray for yo[u]r wor[shi]ps health and happinesse &c

the Aboue named William Winpenny A souldger in his Magesties Services vnder the Comand of Captaine Beniamine Norton beinge vnder his Comand at Yorke Liverpoole & Boulton was Hurted wittnes my Liftenant beinge in the Ridgement of my Lord Berron Randell Daves
