The petition of William Tunnicliffe, Derbyshire, 5 April 1648

To the hono[u]r[a]ble Com[m]ittee for this County of Darby

The petic[i]on of William Tunnicliffe a Soldier of late vnder the Comand of Captaine Robert Mellor

Humbly Sheweth

That yo[u]r petic[i]oner beinge a soldier as aforesaid, and lyinge longe in the feild in at the leagar att Newarke gott a cold by reason whereof your petitioners legs became lame and hee hath now layne vnder the Chyerurgons hands this tow yeares and hath now a Cancer vpon his legg which is supposed to be incurable hee beinge Aged about 70 yeares & his wife aboue 60 yeares are noe way possibly able to prouide for themselves but are altogether cast vpon the Charitie of well disposed Christians

May it therefore please this Comittee the pr[e]misses Considered To Order that yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r may haue some Competency allowed him in lew of his Arreares, And what is soe ordered may be payed pr[e]sent[ly] in respect of yo[u]r petic[i]on[er]s greate pinching necessities, lyinge in such greate payne & misery & yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r will pray duringe his life, w[hi]ch w[i]thout your assistance cannot be longe, &tc

It is thought fitt that the treasurer pay the necessitous petic[i]oner ten shillings towards his releife.
