The petition of William Stonnyer of Astbury, Cheshire, 15 April 1656
To the right wor[shi]p[fu]ll the Justices of the peace of the County Pallatine of Chester assembled at this their pr[e]sent Quarter Sessions of the peace houlden at Midlew[i]ch the 15th day of Aprill 1656.
The humble petic[i]on of William Stonnyer of Asbury in the County aforesayd Taylor.
Sheweth
That your sayd Petic[i]oner, his weife and three of his Children weare borne and bred in the p[ar]ish of Asbury aforesayd, and thearein lived and menteyned themselves for many yeares by their labour and industry without beinge chargeable to any, and when the late warrs fell out in this nac[i]on your petic[i]oner inlisted himselfe a souldier in the Parliam[en]t service, and did good and faithfull service in the same, And beinge one of the souldiers that kept the Garrison of Shrewsbury and continuinge theare for a good space, yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r sent for his weife and Children to come to him; But yo[u]r petic[i]oner beinge now disbanded and out of imploym[en]t did repare with his weife and Children to Asbury aforesayd the place of their birth and former settlem[en]t, wheare they could not bee receaued but are denyed to haue an habitac[i]on, for t though yo[u]r petic[i]oner would give good satisfacc[i]on for ye same
Yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r therfore humbly prayes your order that hee may take him a howse and inhabitt within the sayd p[ar]ishe of Asbury the place of his borth and last settlem[en]t; hee payinge for ye same and menteyninge his familie without beinge burthensome to his neighbo[u]rs
And your petic[i]on[e]r shall euer pray &c
<to bee remanded back hee confessing vppon oath.>
<To bee remanded back to Shewsbury hee confessing his settlem[en]t in Shrew[sbury] 2 moneth>
