The petition of William Seward of Chagford, Devon, undated

To the right Wor[shipfu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the peace of & for the County of Devon att the Sessions held for the said County att the Castle of Exon:
The humble petition of William Seward of Chagford in the said County
Sheweth that yo[u]r petition[e]r in the Late vnhappy Warr in the raigne of our late Sovraigne Lord King Charles the first of ever blessed memory, served his Ma[jes]tie as a Sould[ie]r vnder the Com[m]aund of Kaptain Samuell in Collonell Trevanians Reg[i]m[en]t For the Space of Four yeares vntill the Lying downe of their Armes att Penndennis in Cornewall
That he was alsoe in Seu[er]all Fights, in that tyme, in his Ma[jes]ties Service, & att Bristoll received a wound in his head and att the Siedge att Exet[e]r was wounded in his Legg, by means of w[hi]ch he is altogeather vnable to gett his liveing, and is forced to begg releif from the p[ar]ish
Wherefore yo[u]r petit[ione]r most humbly prayes yo[u]r Wor[shi]ps to take the pr[e]misses into Considerac[i]on & to afford him a pension as for a Maimed Sould[ie]r for his better livelihood & Maintenance
And yo[u]r petit[ione]r shall ever pray &c
