The petition of William Ruste of Chippenham, Wiltshire, 1 October 1662

To the right honourable the Justices of the Quarter Sessions to bee held att Marlebrough Marleburrough within and for the County of Wiltes[hire] the First day of October In the Forteenth yeere of his Ma[jes]tie day of October 1662
The humble petic[i]on of William Ruste of Chippenham in the County afores[ai]d Glouer
Humbly
Sheweth that whereas yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r beeing heretofore a priuate Soldier, And allwaise very reall and actuall for and in the behalfe of his late Ma[jes]tie Kinge Charles the first of blessed memorie (against then this enimies vnder the com[m]and of S[i]r Francis Dorrington. And neuer rec[eived] but litle pay. And was inforsed to spend the greatest p[ar]te of that little Stocke which hee had and did alsoe receiue many dangerouse wounds, and did indure a longe time of Imprisonm[en]t att seuerall times, And since it was yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]rs fortune to marry and haue a great Charge and Familie to maintayne and nothing to trust to att all temperally but his owne Labour, And worke is very scarce withall.
The humble desire therefore of yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r is that hee may haue some yearly stipend or Penc[i]on allowed him for the relife of him and his poore family according to and as it shall seeme fitting to yo[u]r graue judgm[en]ts and yo[u]r petic[i]oner shall dayly pray for your healthes wealths &c.
