The petition of William Russell of Horningsham, Wiltshire, 16 July 1661

To the Right Wor[shi]ppfull the Justices of the peace assembled att the Gen[er]all quarter Sessions of the Peace held for the County of Wiltes[hire] the sixteenth day of July in the xiiith yeere of his ma[jes]ties Raigne over England &c
The humble Petic[i]on of William Russell of Horningsham in the County foresaid Laborer
<Sheweth>
That yo[u]r Petic[i]oner was a Trooper vnder the Comaund of Captaine Staples & Captaine Poulton for his late Ma[jes]tie of ever blessed memory dureinge all the late warrs vntilll the Seige of Taunton att w[hi]ch tyme in the said service he vtterly lost the vse of one of his armes & hath ever th since the hurt in his arme ben exposed to very great want & necessity as may appeare by a Certificate vnder the hands of his officers & others of his Ma[jes]ties soldiers
May it therefore please yo[u]r wor[shi]pps the pr[e]misses considered to allowe yo[u]r petic[i]oner a yeerely penc[i]on out of those moneys that are by the lawe allowed for & towards the releife of such as should be wounded in his Ma[jes]ties service And he yo[u]r Petic[i]oner shal be for ever bound to pray for yo[u]r wor[shi]pps &c
