The petition of William Rashwood of Nursteed, Wiltshire, 16 April 1656

To the Right wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of the Peace for the County of Wiltes[hire] now sitting at Devizes at the Gen[er]all Sessions of the Peace for the County aforesaid
The humble petic[i]on of William Rashwood a poore maymed Souldier:
Sheweth that about Eight yeares since yo[u]r poore petic[i]on[e]r was pressed at Nusteede w[i]thin the County aforesaid by th[e] officers to serue the States vnder Captayne Puckell in Colonells Ham[m]onds Regiment and lay seige against Oxford vntill it was yealed And from thence he marched w[i]th the rest of his company vnto Worcester and likewise lay seige against it vntill that was s[u]rendred, where yo[u]r poore petic[i]on[e]r receaued many hurts of which he is not yet cured, nor never like to be.
May it therfore please yo[u]r good wor[shi]pps to extend yo[u]r accustomed Charitable favo[u]rs to consider the lamentable condic[i]on of a poore distressed lame Souldier (being not able to work) to allow him some smal penc[i]on towards his releif, as others in like cases haue ben p[ro]vided for And yo[u]r poore petic[i]on[e]r shal be bound to pray for yo[u]r Wor[shi]pps healths & happines &c
