The petition of William Pemberton of Nantwich Hundred, Cheshire, Trinity 1663

To the Right ho[nourable] & Right wo[rshipfu]ll his Ma[jes]t[y’]s Comission[er]s for releife of poore officers and souldyours
The humble pet[ition] of W[illia]m Pemb[er]ton.

That yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r did serve his late Ma[jes]tie as a Souldyour att Edgehill & att Nasbie Fight vnd[e]r the Comaund of Captaine Tho[mas] Chol[mondley] in the Earle of Linseys Regim[en]t where he yo[u]r said pet[itioner] was taken prison[er] & brought to London, where he was kept in strict prison for 4re monethes & in th[e] end was Enforced to Ransome himselfe to his owne ympoverishm[en]t: & his Freinds Charg[e]s by reason of his wounds, And when he Came home he Could not Rest in quiet by reason of his fidelitie soe that he adventured to Worcester, vnd[e]r the Comaund of Colonel Eiegin And after he Came home he makinge his service appe[ar] he had x s. p[er] Ann[um] allowed out of the County pay. And now hearinge of the greate bounty of his Ma[jes]tie to faithfull wounded souldyours w[hi]ch is Com[m]itted to yo[u]r distribucc[i]on.
His humble pet[ition] is That in regard he hath a wife & 4re smale Children & that Capt[ain] Cholmondley vnd[e]r whome he s[e]rved hath Certyfyed the trueth of his faithfull s[e]rvice, That his allowance (by yo[u]r goodnes) may be inlarged to a higher p[ro]porc[i]on And he will pray &c
