The petition of William Metcalfe senior of Yarm, North Riding of Yorkshire, 19 January 1686

To the Honourable his Majesties justices of the peace for ye North Riding of ye County of Yorke att ye Sessions holden at [blank] ye day of [blank] 1685:
The humble Petition of William Metcalfe sen[ior] of Yarme in ye said countie gent.
Humbly sheweth:
That yo[u]r Petitioner did serve King Charles ye first of blessed memory in ye Quality of a Captain of foot for about four yeares & in yt time spent ye most of his Estate & since had ye rest taken from him by Sequestration & other waies for his Loyalty & tho[ugh] hee has indeavoured by all honest waies to get a livelyhood since he left that service yet hee is now by his old wounds utterly disabled to helpe himselfe & forced to keep his bed & therefore humbly begs yo[u]r Charity may be extended to him for & towards his maintenance in such sort as may seeme most convenient to ye Hono[u]rable Bench & yo[u]r Petition[e]r as in duty bound shall ever pray for you &c.
We whose names are here und[e]rwritten do certifie yt ye contents of this Petition is in every respect true & just
