The petition of William Laurence of Waltham, Kent, 1650

The humble petic[i]on of William Laurence
In all humble manner sheweth That yo[u]r Wor[shi]ps poore petic[i]oner was prest a souldier from Waltham in the Countie of Kent to serve vnder the command of Collonel Foscue for the reliefe of Taunton in Summersetshiere wher he receaved such wounds that allthough he scaped [sic.] w[i]th life yet his condic[i]on is so greiuous (being not able to healp himself) that if speedy course be not taken for his present and future sustentac[i]on he is like to be in a very p[er]ishing condic[i]on.
May it therfore please yo[u]r Wor[shi]ps the pr[e]misses considered so farre to commiserate his so sad and deplored condic[i]on as to bestowe vpon him a yearely stipend whereby he may be able to minister comfort vnto his great necessities Wherein he shal be ever bound to pray &c
