The petition of William Jones of Hereford (All Saints Parish), Herefordshire, 1680 to 1681

To the Right Wor[shipf]ull Thomas Clarke Esq[ui]r[e] Major of the Citty of Hereford and to the rest of the Justices of the Peace of and for the same Citty
The humble petic[i]on of William Jones a poore Souldier heretofore for his late Ma[jes]tie Charles the first of ever blessed memory whoe was prest to serve in ye s[ai]d service & continued faithfull all Along without desertic[i]on to his prince & principalls
Shewe
That yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r haue lived and p[ai]d rent in ye p[ar]ishe of All Saints for ye space of 20ty yeares together Last past, and now by reason of his wounds receaved in ye s[ai]d Service & his worke being done, is not able to support him self any longer or to doe as he was wont, besides he was never yet burthensome to ye said p[ar]ishe, or to any p[ar]ishe elewhere ever his aboade was. & his Aboade now is yet still in ye s[ai]d parish of All Saints.
Wherefore hee humbly prayes for the reasons afores[ai]d to Order that he may receave some weekely allowance out of ye s[ai]d parish, for future towards his relieff & mainteynance, being now not able to worke what yo[u]r good wors[hi]pps pleaseth to doe in wisedome therein
