The humble petic[i]on of William Humffrey
Sheweth
That yo[u]r pet[itione]r beinge an apprentize in the Towne of Shirerosbury when his late Ma[jes]ty Charles the first of blessed memory martched towards through that Towne yo[u]r pet[itione]r then listed himself a volunteere in his army vnder the Comaund of Colonell Blacke then Gou[er]nour of Wallingeford yo[u]r pet[itione]r was att the takinge of Sissiter Comaunded by Prince Rupert vnder whose Comaund he was seu[er]all times taken pr[i]son[er] & had seu[er]all wounds & he continued pr[i]son[er] att Bridge North water for 18en weekes & thence sent ou[er] for Ireland where he served for the kinge vnder the Comaund of Colonel John Booler & from Ireland went to Fraunce & soe to Silly thence to Scotland to his Ma[jes]ty That nowe is, & soe came to vlster fight where he was taken & sent pr[i]son[er] to London for 21ty weeks by reason of all w[hi]ch service & of his wounds he is become very vnable & quitte lost & benummed of his limbs & his backe boane quite broake as by inspecc[i]on app[er]eth thereby become vnable to yearne his livinge but is & must begge his bread.
Wherefore May it please yo[u]r wor[ship]s to comiserate yo[u]r pet[itione]rs sad condic[i]on & to graunte yo[u]r pet[itione]r a stipend out of the Maymed souldiers mize cessed in this Com[itatus] for releef of Maymed souldiers where yo[u]r pet[itione]r was borne & yo[u]r pet[itione]r will eu[er] pray &c.
