The petition of William Houghe of Bradwall, Cheshire, Easter 1658

To the righte wo[rshipfu]ll the Justices of the Peace at this q[uar]ter sessions

The humble Petic[i]on of William Houghe of Bradwall Sheweth

That whereas yo[u]r Pet[itioner], beinge borne in the Parish of Sandbach, hath beene ever ready to performe personall service in the warrs for the Lo[rd] Protector, and this Common-wealth and was a Souldier in the last Battle at Worcester.

And whereas yo[u]r said Pet[itioner] hath a greate Charge of wife and Children and noe house to live in: but the last winter both himselfe and family (haveinge noe habitac[i]on but a poore shelter made of Cloddes) were almost destroyed w[i]th Cold and wante of other necessaryes.

Wherefore the humble request of yo[u]r Pet[itioner] is, That yo[u]r wo[rshi]pps wil be pleased to grante an Order to yo[u]r Pet[itioner] that hee may have some Conveniente place appointed him in Bradwall, wherein to erecte a house

And yo[u]r Pet[itioner] shall ever pray &c
