The petition of William Gilby of Rothwell, Northamptonshire, Michaelmas 1675

<North[amp]ton S[ession]s>
To the Right hon[ou]r[a]ble Brian Viscount Cullen and others his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the Peace for the sayd County of North[amp]ton[shire].
The humble Petic[i]on of William Gilby of Ro[th]well in the sayd County of North[amp]ton[shire] Laborer.
Humbly sheweth to yo[u]r hono[u]rs.
That yo[u]r Peticioner haveing bin a Souldier & actually in Armes for our late dread Sou[er]raigne Lord King Charles the Second First of blessed memory vnder the Comaund of one Captaine Ward att Naseby fight & other places, and haveing lost one of his eyes and had & received diverse wounds and suffered imprisonament by the enemy besides other losses in money and goods to the vallue of Thirty pounds and vpwards to his vtter ruin and vndoenig for his loyallty and faithfull service in the warrs for his sayd late Ma[jes]ty King Charles the Second First and now being growne very aged and infirme and not able to worke for his living as formerly hee hath done, The p[re]misses Considered, yo[u]r Petitioner therefore humbly prayes yo[u]r hono[u]rs favo[u]rs to take his deploreable condic[i]on into yo[u]r hono[u]rs pious & Charitable Considerac[i]ons by ordering him an annuall pention of twenty thirty shillings p[er] ann[um] as other maymed souldiers haue for theire like loyall faithfull service in the warrs for theire dread Sou[er]aigne, and in soe doeing yo[u]r Petitioner will be ever obliged to pray for yo[u]r hono[u]rs healthes & happines & ever remaine

We desire this poore mans petic[i]on may be recommended att the next Michaelmas Quarter Sessions of the peace for ye said county of North[amp]ton[shire] 1675 to the rest of the Justices there whereby he may haue an annuall pention of xxx s. p[er] ann[um] ordered towards his reliefe & mayntenance for his sadd sufferings & losses, as alsoe for the loyall and faithfull service he hath done in the Warrs for o[u]r said late Sou dread Sou[er]aigne lord King Charles the Second &c First.
