The petition of William Ellis of Farndon, Cheshire, Epiphany 1671

To the Right Worshipfull Kendricke Eaton Randle Dodd and John Leech Esq[ui]r[e]s, And the rest of his Mai[es]tys Justices of the peace att the Mounths meeteinge in and for the Hundred of Broxton. The humble petic[i]on of William Ellis of Farndon w[i]thin yo[u]r s[ai]d Hundred of Broxton and County of Chester Labourer Sheweth
That whereas yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r hath beene and is A true & Loyall Subject vnto his pr[e]sent Ma[jes]tie and soe hath beene vnto his Ma[jes]tie Late Father of blessed memory, And that yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r did beare Armes for the space of seauen yeares and vpwards, first vnder the Com[m]and of S[i]r Edward Massye at last fight at Worcester And then vnder the Com[m]and of Coronell Worthen in England and whereas yo[u]r s[ai]d petic[i]on[e]r did not only thereby loose his Estate w[hi]ch he had but also receiued much Imprisonm[en]t and many wounds In soe much that yo[u]r s[ai]d petic[i]on[e]r is farr vnable to gett his owne liuelyhood haueing A wife and Children to maintaine, And whereas the s[ai]d William Ellis yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r hath neuer taken vp Armes Against his pr[e]sent Ma[jes]tie or his Ma[jes]tie late Father of blessed Memory.
The premisses Considered may it please yo[u]r Worshipps to grant that yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r may {b}e Admit{ted} A pention[e]r in the Roome of John Owens pent{ioner} {illegible} led in the s[ai]d Hundred of Broxton, And yo[u]r peti{ioner as in duty bound} shall euer pray &c
