The petition of William Crofts of Darfield, West Riding of Yorkshire, April 1669

To the Right Wo[rshi]p[fu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justic[e]s of the Peace Assembled att the Gen[er]all Quarter Sess[ions] now at Pontefract.
The humble petic[i]on of W[illia]m Crofts of Darfeild.
Humbly sheweth.
That yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r was a Soldier in his late Ma[jes]ties Service vnd[e]r the Com[m]and of Major Wheatley in Coll[onel] S[i]r George Wentworths Regim[en]t, & faithfully Serued dureinge all the said vnhappy Warrs, neuer Desertinge the said service; In which tyme hee receiued seu[er]all Woundes, whereby hee was much disabled from labour; And yt y[ou]r pet[itione]r (now growing Antyent & haueinge a Wife & 5 Children and by Reason of a late Sicknes & long Weakenes, And beeinge very lame also & in much payne Occasioned by his form[e]r Wounds) thereby is reduced into great straits not Able to Maintayne his poor Family w[i]thout some Releife
Therefore Humbly prayes (In Considerac[i]o{n} of the pr[e]misses), yo[u]r Worr[shi]ps will please to grant yo[u]r poore petic[i]on[e]r a quarterly penc[i]on, Whereby hee may be Inabled to subsist with his Family & gett some Releife for his maintenance in this his necessitous Condic[i]on, As in wisedome shall bee thought fitt.
And yo[u]r pet[itione]r shall dayly pray &c.
