The petition of William Buckingham of Bradninch, Devon, 20 April 1664

To the right wor[shipfu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices Assembled at the gen[er]all quarter Sessions w[i]thin the Countie aforesaid.
The humble petic[i]on of William Buckingham of Bradninch in the said County.
<Humblie Sheweth>
That yo[u]r poore petic[i]oner being now aged above seventie fower yeares and growne into a poore and destitute condic[i]on much by reason of his sufferings in the Late War[r]es as a souldier in the Kings most excellent Ma[jes]ties service (of blessed memorie) In w[hi]ch service under the Com[m]aunde of Collonell Blewet who was slaine against Lyme Regis yo[u]r poore petic[i]oner received Two severall wounds w[hi]ch are yet verie manifest, By reason whereof yo[u]r pore petic[i]oner is and hath ben long since unabled to provide for himselfe sufficient reliefe And now having spent his small substance in this condic[i]on and Surprized by old age before death.
Humblie praieth yo[u]r wo[rshi]pps to Consider and com[m]iserate yo[u]r poore pet[ici]oners deplorable Condic[i]on and grante unto him such penc[i]on or pay out of the publique stocke for the maimed souldiers as yo[u]r wo[rshi]pps shall Judge meet, And yo[u]r poore pet[itioner] shall ever praie.
We whose names are underwritten can and doe hereby Attest the truth of the p[re]mises in the petic[i]on abovesaid.
