The humble petition of William Bramley of Penbridge
Sheweth
Whereas Francis Bramley the father of your petitioner was, for his faythfull, and reall endeavour to doe service for the King & Parliam[en]t, executed at Wingfield Mannor, and left behind him sixe children, three whereof are altogether unable to prouide for themselves, and haue none left to looke to them, but a mother in law, whose care of them is very small, and her ability lesse, being scarce able to prouide for her selfe since her husband dyed (who was the onely meanes under god of her liuelyhood) much lesse able by to prouide for them, who (notwithstanding some promises made by this Hon[oura]ble Com[mi]ttie for theire reliefe) haue as yet had nothing to support them, but what they haue had from the charity of good, and well-affected people, which hath beene so small that they haue hitherto beene maintayned in a uery poore, and uncomfortable way, and seeing now the children are ready to be put forth to seruice, and willing to doe what seruice they are able, that they may not allwayes live upon charity; but want clothes, and other necessaries to fit them for seruice
My humble suite to this Hon[oura]ble Committee is, that you will be pleased to take theire case, & poore condition into your Consideration, and contribute something to the reliefe of this theire necessity, & your petitioner shall be euer engaged to pray for your health, and happinesse.
April 30th 1647
It is ordered by the Com[mi]tte that Mr Buxton Treasurer pay the Petic[i]o[ne]r William Bramley the sume of two pounds
