The petition of William Bennett of Salford, Lancashire, Midsummer 1680

To the Worshipfull his Majesties Justices {at their} Sessions att Manchester

 

The Humble Peticion of William Bennett of S{alford}

 

Sheweth that your Peticioner being turned out by t{he} {illegible} of this County of his house in Salford afores[ai]d, in {which he} was born and bred, saving for such tyme as he was a {?soldier} in his Maj[es]ties army in the late vnfortunate warre, {For which} service till now of late he has re[ceive]d an annuall stipen{d of} three pounds p[er] ann[um], w[hi]ch is now taken of and in regard {that your} peticioner is an aged person, and neare Eighty yeares of {age} and destitute of an house to live in

 

Humbly pra{i}es your Worsh[i]ps order to the officer of Salford {to pr}ovide him a place of habitac[i]on For himselfe {and} his wife, to live in, which y[o]ur poore peti[ti]oner hop{es is} both according to law and Justice

 

And shall {ever pray}

 

Ch[urchwardens} & {Overseers} to p[ro]vide him accord{ing to} his necessities
