To the Right Wor[shipfu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the Peace, For the Countie of Devon
The Humble Petic[i]on of William Beckalake of Hatherleigh in the Countie afores[ai]d
Humbly Sheweth that y[ou]r Petic[i]on[e]r Havinge served our late Sou[e]raigne Kinge Charles the First, of ever blessed memory, in the Late Warr for the space of Fower Years, and vpward, vnder the Com[m]and of Captaine Thomas Egerton, in S[i]r Thomas Ashtons Regem[en]t of horse; And Received divers dangerous Wounds; Yett appar[en]t And sundry Longe Imprisonm[en]ts; By Reason Whereof y[ou]r Peticon[e]r suffreth great Paines; W[hi]ch are nowe Encreased by meanes of his age; Whereby he is noe longer able to gett his livelihood Wherefore y[ou]r Humble Pettic[i]on[e]r Humbly prayith your Wor[shi]pps to Comiserate his sad Condic[i]on, And to grante him y[ou]r favour, that he maye have a p[ro]porc[i]onable penc[i]on; Whereby he Maye the better; be Inabled to Mainetaine himselfe, in this, his miserabell Condic[i]on
And y[ou]r Petit[i]on[e]r as bound in duty shall praye &c,
