The petition of William Baggerley of Eccleshall, Staffordshire, 5 October 1658

To the worshipfull the Justices of peace for the Countye of Stafforde at the Sessions holden October the fifte 1658.
The humble peticion of William Baggeley of Ekcleshall in the said Countye.
Sheweth
That your poore peticioner who beinge a pentioner in this County and for a while was misled into Darbey there to Sirhuaye farm lands & Cole mines: as was pr[e]tended & hee was Cast into darbye goale where hee hath layne allmost towe yeares, hath Caused him to spend all that small substance hee hadd and pawne the bedds hee & his familye hadd to lye one: and his Children turned out of doors in time of his [?dicrante].
Maye it therefore please your worshipps to Comisserate his deplorable Condition: hee is wrongfully Sustained and grante that whereas you in mercy were pleased to grante grante him a quartere of his pention beforehands which was a meanes to help him to inlargue [?thereby] that you would be further pleased to extend your wanted Clemencye towards him and grante that hee may haue his quarterli pension now payd hm, to helpe him in this pr[e]sente distres.
And your peticioner as in all dutye shall eu[e]r be bound to pray &c.
