The petition of William Askue of Northampton, Northamptonshire, Easter 1668

To the right Wo[shi]ppfull ye Justices of ye Peace for the County of Northampton[shire].
The Humble Petic[i]on of William Askue late Souldier vnd[e]r ye Com[m]and of the right hono[ura]ble James Earle of Northampton at Banbury who serued his Late Majestye from ye begininge of ye warres vnto ye End. & reseued seu[er]all wounds therein w[hi]ch hath very much disenabled him to doe any thinge considerable towards ye releife of himselfe & famely. And whereas this hon[oura]ble Bench was pleased to graunt yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r a penc[i]on of 3 Ii. 10 s. p[er] annu[m] & now yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]rs order is taken in. & yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r was in arrears 3 q[ua]rters when he deliu[er]ed vp his s[ai]d Order halfe a yeare in Capt[ain] Liles tyme & i q[ua]rter in Capt[ain] Harbys besides this 12 Month.
Now yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r[s] humble request to this hono[ura]ble Bench is yt you would be pleased to take ye same into yo[u]r considerac[i]ons & graunt to yo[u]r Petic[i]oner some releife herein, yo[u]r Petic[i]oner being a very poore man & w[i]thout some releife altogether vnable for to subsist. But himselfe & poore wife & Children wil bee Exposed vnto a perishing condition vnless this hono[ura]ble Bench by yo[u]r cleamency to him bee pleased someway to releiue him. & therein you will euer ingage him & his poore famely to pray &c.
