The petition of William Ashly of King’s Cliffe, Northamptonshire, Easter 1676

To the Hon[our]able his Ma[jes]ties Justices of peace for the County of North[amp]ton[shire]
The Humble Petic[i]on of William Ashly of Kings-Cliffe within the s[ai]d County
<Humbly Sheweth> That your Hon[ou]rs pet[it]ion[e]r was a faithfull and Loyall Sould[ie]r in his late Ma[jes]ties Service und[e]r the Com[m]and of Capt[ain] Nudicate Poynze Capt[ain] of Horse, wherein hee did not only loose a Considerable Estate but did alsoe Receiue seu[er]all dangerous wounds, and thereby the use of his left hand; And being now neare seaventy yeares of Age, And not being able to worke, not haueing any Estate whereby to mainteine himselfe
Your pet[it]ion[e]r doth humbly pray That your Hon[ou]rs will bee please[d] to take into Conserac[i]on his great Exigences, And to Allow your pet[it]ion[e]r such a penc[i]on as your Hon[ou]rs shall thinke fitt, And your pet[it]ion[e]r shall as in duty hee ought ever pray &c
<These are to Certifie his Ma[jes]ties Justices of peace for the County of North[amp]ton[shire], That the pet[it]ion[e]r William Ashly was a faithfull sould[ie]r in his late Ma[jes]ties service und[e]r the Com[m]and of my Father Nudicate Poynze Capt[ain] of Horse And that for his Loyall and good service in the late warrs hee doth deserve a Considerable penc[i]on>

The petition[e]r to have 40 s. p[er] Ann[um] to begin this Sessions till further ord[e]r vpon the request of Mr Fleetwood & Mr Sayer

Wee (whose names are hereunto subscribed Inhabitants of Kings Cliffe doe humbly Certefie That William Ashly of our s[ai]d parish is a person of an honest Behaviour And that hee is at this pr[e]sent in great necessity And that wee verrily beleeve his petic[i]on to be true, And that hee doth well deserve a Considerable penc[i]on, for his faithfull service to his Ma[jes]tie in the late warrs
