The petition of William Ashley of King’s Cliffe, Northamptonshire, 23 March 1676

To the Right Worsh[ip]full his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the peace for the County of Northampton[shire]
The humble peticion of William Ashley of Kings Cliffe in the County of Northampton[shire]; March the xxiiith Anno Dom[i]ni 1676
Humbly sheweth
That whereas your Worshipps peticioner was a souldier in his late Ma[jes]ties service of Blessed memory King Charles the First; haueing formerly a pention allowed him for the severall wounds he receiued in his said Ma[jes]ties service; insomuch that he hath little or noe use of one of his hands, his fingers begin knitt up together; beside severall other wounds, whereby he is soe much disabled being sixty yeares of age and vpwards, that he cannot get a livelyhood and a subsistence for the maintenance of himselfe his wife and family
Wee, the Inhabitants of the said Towne whose names are herevnto subscribed doe humbly desire that your Worshipps poore peticioner may haue his former pention allowed him or any other, as your Worshipps shall thinke fitt; towards the releife and maintenance of himselfe his Wife and family in this his old age; And he his Wife and Children shall euer be bound to pray for your Worshipps p[ro]sp[er]ityes in true felicity
