The petition of William Arthur of Snelson, Cheshire, Michaelmas 1676

To the Hono[ura]ble his Ma[jes]tys Justices of the peace for ye County of Chester att theire Generall quarter Sessions to bee held for ye s[ai]d County

The Humble petiticon [sic.] of William Arthur of Snelson in ye hundred of Macclesfield and Countye afores[ai]d

Sheweth

That yo[u]r petic[i]oner haueinge served his late Ma[jes]tie of Blessed Memorye in ye time of ye Rebellion in Ireland was a Souldier there vnd[e]r the Comand of S[i]r Symon [illegible] Honicott, And vpon his returne into England, Serued vnd[e]r the Comand of Captaine Sandford and was a Serjeant vnd[e]r the Comand of Col[one]l Gibson att ye takeinge of Beeston Castle from Capt[ain] Steele duringe In which service yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r receiued Seuerall wounds and Shotts hee alsoe hath Served in the Traine=bands vnd[e]r the Comand of Col[one]l Legh for this fifteen yeares but is now Grown very old, Lame and very poor haueinge Nothinge to Subsist on but what hee Getts by his hand Labour which is very small beinge by reason of his manye hurts rendred Incapable to follow it.

May it therefore please yo[u]r Hono[u]rs tender Consid[e]rac[i]on of yo[u]r poor petic[i]on[e]rs sad Condic[i]on to admitt him a penc[i]on for his maintenance & releife for ye future And yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r will euer pray &c

I [illegible] whose names [illegible] am subscribed doe hereby Certifie that the Contents of ye petic[i]on aboue written are is true. beinge vpon the s[ai]d services
