The petition of Widow Moore of Stretton, Cheshire, 23 April 1650

<The humble pet[i]c[i]on of vidd[ua] Moore of Stretton>
Humbly sheweth vnto this wor[shipfu]ll Bench that your pe[ti]c[ioner] in hauing had her husband and foure sonnes ingaged in the service of the Parl[iamen]t hath to her great griefe lost her husband and her eldest sonne in the same, the husband after the hurt lying vppon her hands the space of two monethes and ye sonne halfe a yeare, chirurrgeons [sic.] bills and extraordinarie accomodations together w[i]th their buriall amounting vnto wel nigh fourtie pounds, for p[ro]curing of w[hi]ch your pe[ti]c[i]on[er] was enforced to sell both a great part of her household vtensells, and sett her ground to the doore at inconsiderable rates, and likewise then two liues both in the Lease and shee charged w[i]th three small children vnable any way to gett their owne liuinge w[hi]ch hath brought y[ou]r p[eti]c[ioner] to great pouertie and enforced her to addresse her selfe vnto this wor[shipfu]ll Bench who otherwise whylest shee was able by any meanes to supply her owne wants hath forborne the same.
May it therefore please y[ou]r wor[shi]pps the pr[e]mises considered to relieue your poore pe[ti]c[ioner] w[i]th some accomodation (as to the wor[shi]pp[fu]ll Bench shall seeme meet necessetie hauing enforced me to trouble y[ou]r good wor[shi]pps and your peti[c[i]o[ner] shall be euer bound to pray for yo[u]r wor[shi]pp[s] &c

Wee whose names are subscribed Justices of the peace for the countie abouesaid acording to referrence and order of the Sessions doe [illegible] admit the petic[i]oner as a Pensio[ne]r & allow her Fiftie shillings p[er] Ann[um] to bee paid by the Treasurer for Maimed soldiers orphants and widdowes Given vnder o[u]r hands & seales the 29th day of July 1650,
