The petition of Walter Williams of Mary Tavy, Devon, 3 January 1679

To the hon[ou]r[a]ble and right Wor[shipfu]ll his Ma[jes]t[y’]s Justices of the peace for the Countye of Devon.
The Humble petic[i]on of Walter Williams of Marytavy in the sayd Countye husbandman:
Humbly Sheweth That y[ou]r poore peticon[e]r was in all the late warrs in his late Ma[jes]t[y’]s Service an honest loyall Subject and Souldier both vnder Mr Degory Tremayne in S[i]r Bevill Grenviles Regim[en]t and afterwards vnder Left[enant] Collonel Edmond Tremayne in S[i]r Edward Seymours Regim[en]t, and ever since hath contynued his loyaltye and willingnes to serve his now Ma[jes]tye and beinge become aged, and alsoe by reason of his wounds and hardshipps endured and received in the sayd warrs is nowe become feeble and vnable to gett his Mayneteynance by his daylye labour whereby hee hath heytherto endeavored to maynetayne himselfe and poore famylye, and was ever willinge soe to doe (if God almighty had ben pleased to afford him health and strenght Wherefore y[ou]r poore peticon[e]r doth in most humble manner beseech this hon[ou]r[a]ble Court to take into y[ou]r serious Considerac[i]on the nowe sad Condic[i]on of y[ou]r poore peticon[e]r by alloweinge or orderinge him some yearely pension towards his releife & mayneteynance
And y[ou]r poore peticon[e]r shall ever pray for y[ou]r hon[ou]rs health and prosperitye &c

I knowe that the matters conteyned in the petic[i]on aboue written are true.
