The humble petic[i]on of Walter Jewell of Collompton A Maimed Souldier
<Humbly sheweth vnto yo[u]r wor[shi]pps>
That whereas yo[u]r pet[itione]r being in the Service of his late Ma[jes]tie of euer blessed memory vnder the Command of S[i]r John Actland in the Company of Captaine Gidley, in w[hi]ch service yo[u]r pet[itione]r was in the head & thyghe against Plimouth and Torrington & receiued two wounds and alsoe receiued divers & sundry other dangerous wounds in his body to the great expence of his blood; and is thereby disabled from followeing his vocation, not being able to gitt any thing for his mayntaynance, and hauing nothing to subsist on is like vtterly to perrish vnlesse yo[u]r Wor[shi]pps mercy & Clemency extend towarde him in this his sadd & deplorable Condic[i]on.
In tender Commisserac[i]on of the pr[e]misses yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r humbly prayeth yo[u]r wor[shi]pps to graunt yo[u]r pet[itione]r a continuall penc[i]on Allotted for Maymed Souldiers.
And yo[u]r pet[itione]r shall euer pray &c.
