To the hono[ura]ble theire Ma[jes]tyes Justices of the Peace att the Generall Sessions held att the Castle of Exon for the sayd County.
The humble Petition of Tobias Addams of the p[ar]ish of Lifton in the sayd County Labourer.
<Sheweth>
That your Poor Petic[i]oner was in the tyme of King Charles the first A Foot soldier under the Command of Captayn Henry Bidlake deceased in the regim[en]t of the hono[ura]ble S[i]r Nicholas Slanning Kn[igh]t likewise deceased in the late unhappy warrs between the sayd King & Parliam[en]t & Continued in the sayd Service from the beginning of the sayd Service Warrs untill the disbanding of his sayd then Ma[jes]tyes Army in the west of Cornwall in which sayd service he was much & often wounded, Since which tyme your Petic[i]oner hath endeavoured & Lived by his dayly Labour in Husbandry, But being now seventy six yeares of Age or near thereabouts grown feeble & not able to gett his living by his Labour as formerly (though willing) your Poor Petic[i]on[e]r doeth humbly pray that your hono[u]rs would Consider & Comiserate his Condic[i]on & would be pleased to order him Somewhat towards his Support & Releefe in his old Age.
And your Petic[i]oner as in duty bound shall dayly Pray &c.
