The petition of Thomas Vrinston of Newton, Cheshire, Easter 1659

To the Right wo[rshi]pp[fu]ll the Justices of peace for the County Palatine of Chester now Assembled at Midlew[i]ch

The humble petic[i]on of Thomas Vrinston of Newton in the p[ar]ish of Midlew[i]ch Shoomaker

<Sheweth>

That yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r hath been a souldier in the late warres vnder the Com[m]and of the right wor[shi]pp[fu]ll Col[one]l Mainwaringe of Carrincham And hath liued in the p[ar]ish of Midlewich for the space of Fyve yeares last past And that hee married a wife come of good Frends and was borne in the s[ai]d p[ar]ish of Midlewich And that she hath borne vnto yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r three Children in the s[ai]d p[ar]ish And that duringe the tyme of their abode theire they haue been careffull to maintaine their Family by theire owne laboure and industry and behaved themselues honestly and peaceably towards all men: But now soe it is yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]rs havinge taken a Cottage in Newton afforesaid for the space of three yeares the Church wardens of Midlewich and other inhabitants threatenned yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]rs landlord that if hee let yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r haue his bargaine they would trouble him soe that hee is Fearffull to let yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r haue his bargaine by reason of their threats Soe that yo[u]r poor petic[i]on[e]r his wife and Children are like to be harbourles and destitute of an habitac[i]on and ly without doores if yo[u]r wo[rshi]pps in yo[u]r wisdomes take not pity vpon vs

The pr[e]mises tenderly Considered and For as much as yo[u]r petic[i]onpe]r hath good Right to hould the s[ai]d Cottage For the terme affores[ai]d and knoweth not elswhere to p[ro]vide For himself and Family  humbly prayes that behaueinge himselfe honestly towards all men hee may haue the libertie of a subject and injoy his bargaine agreed vpon without molestac[i]on And yo[u]r poore petic[i]on[e]r as in duty bound will eu[er] pray &c

I doe know this Petitioner was a souldier in my regiment and I doe beleeue the rest of his Peticion (as to the tyme of his habitation in the parish of Middlewich) to be tru.
