The petition of Thomas Stone of Gasper, Somerset, 3 July 1675

To the Right Worshipfull the Kings Ma[jes]ties Justices of the Peace assembled att the Generall Quarter Sessions for the County of Somerset
The humble petition of Thomas Stone of Gasp[er]:
<Humbly> sheweth yt your Petitioner hath ben a Souldier in the Late warrs vnder the command of the hono[ura]ble the L[or]d Hoppon for the space of three yeares and upwards being then by severall wounds disabled to p[er]forme this service any longer; was forced to leaue the same; and to repaire to His Habitac[i]on in Gasp[er]: affores[ai]d, where he lay lame for the space of two years & upwards; whereby He became very poore; and noe way able to maintaine Himselfe and family; and by reason of His old age vnfitt to labour to procure a competent subsistence:
We whose names are subscribed Inhabitants of Gasp[er] affores[ai]d doe desire your Worships to be pleased to settle a penc[i]on upon Him: and your Petitioner shall be ever bound to pray
