The petition of Thomas Stansfeild of Ashton Under Lyne, Lancashire, 24 January 1661

To the Right Wor[shipfu]ll his Ma[jes]ti[e]s Justices of peace & Quor[um] assembled att the Quarter Sessions of the Peace houlden att Manchester the 24th day of January 1660.
The humble petic[i]on of Thomas Stansfeild of Assheton vnd[e]r lyne in the Countie of Lancaster
Humblie sheweth
That yo[u]r poore petic[i]on[e]r att the takeinge of Preston was a souldier then in the Regim[en]t of Col[one]l Holand in the Companie of Capt[ain] Booth and att the storme of the sayd Towne yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r was dismembred of his right hand, And for this two yeares past since his pension was taken off att Ely house, London, hee hath been in great want of mayntaynance for himself wife and foure small Children and they beeinge visited with sicknesse, if some speedy course bee not taken, hee is likely with his poore family to suffer the extrimitie of hunger Cold and nakednesse and to bee starued vnlesse releeued by this hon[ou]r[a]ble Benc[h]e
The pr[e]misses tend[e]rly Considered yo[u]r poore petic[i]on[e]r humblie prayes your good Wor[shi]ps to take his sad estate & Condic[i]on into yo[u]r thoughts and to give ord[e]r for yo[u]r sayd poore peitc[i]on[e]rs releeue as may in some measure bee answerable to his Charge and pressinge necessitye, and as you in yo[u]r wisdoms shall thinke fitt, And yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r with his poore family as in duty bound will ever pray &c
