The petition of Thomas Pugh of Ruabon, Denbighshire, c. 1662 to 1667

To the right Wor[ship]ffull his Ma[jes]ties Deputy lieftenants and his Ma[jes]ties iustices of the peace Sittinge at the gen[e]ral q[ua]rter Sessions for ye com[itatus] of Denbigh.
The humble peticon of Thomas Pugh of the parish of Ruabon as followeth
Humbly sheweth
That yo[u]r petic[i]oner hath Beene for the Space of Sixe y[ea]res a Soldier in his late Ma[je]sties Seruice our Sou[er]aigne lord King Charles the first of glorious memory vnder the Seuerall Comands of Col[one]l William Owens Capt[ain] Edward Lloyd and Maior John Edwards, esq[ui]res vnder whose Commands dureing the time before menc[i]oned he hath both faithfully and valiantly Contin{u}ed in ye Said Seruice firme and stedfast to the end And neu[er] reuolted And by reason of his integrity and loyallty to his late Ma[je]sties he was vehemently wrounged and greeuiously plundered of all that euer he hadd and was not onely soe robbed of his estate But was daungerously Wounded and maymed in soe much that he lost the vse of his hand and is in a very desperate Condic[i]on haveinge a Wief and foure Small Children and noe releefe to mayntaine them as the p[ar]ishion[e]rs and ye gentlemen whose names are vnder Written Will iustifie.
In tender Considerac[i]on hereof be [illegible] pleased to take to yo[u]r Serious & pious Considerac[i]on his Sadd distressed and dolefull Condic[i]on and to Comiserate him soe farr as to graunt him a pension accordinge to his Ma[je]]ties his gratious Act of Parliament in that Behalfe made for ye releeuinge of loyall indigent maymed Soldiers. Whereby he may haue Somethinge to releeue him in his extreame pouerty And therein yow will reape ye praiers of him, his Wief and poore Children
