The petition of Thomas Pendleton of Broughton, Lancashire, 18 July 1661

The most humble Petic[i]on of Thomas Pendleton of Broughton
Sheweth
That whereas yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r late souldier in the Right Hon[oura]ble the Lord Oscery his Regim[en]t being in actuall armes the 25th of Aprill 1660 hath taken the oath of allegeance & of Supremacie, & being disbanded at Devon the 30th day of October 1660 (as by a certificate now remaineing with him) had liberty freely given him to reside & set vp any Trade or manufacture in the kingdome of England or dominion of Wales, yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r returneing home to Broughton the place of his Nativitie his Grandfather Raphe Pendleton of Broughton webster was well pleased to receiue both yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r & his wife into his habitac[i]on hee haueing a Lease of the pr[e]misses for terme of life. But the Lords Jury of Broughton haue p[ro]ceeded to impose a Fine of six shillings Eight pence p[er] mensem vpon the said Raphe Pendleton to bee leuied on his goods and Chattells soe longe as hee shall harbor yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r & his wife notwithstanding yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r nor his wife are neu[e]r likely to bee chargeable to any of them.
May it therefore please this wor[shi]p[fu]ll bensh (the pr[e]misses considered) to grant forth yo[u]r wor[shi]p[fu]ll order to the end yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r & his wife may haue peaceable and quiet habitac[i]on in the place they now lives in as alsoe that the Fyne imposed vpon the said Raphe Pendleton yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]rs Grandfather may bee remitted. And yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r (as in duty bound) will ever pray &c
