The petition of Thomas Osborne of Hereford (St John the Baptist Parish), Herefordshire, 1684 to 1685

To the Right wor[shi]ppfull Symon Traunter Esq[ui]r[e] Major of the Citty of Hereff[o]rd & to the rest of the hono[u]rable & wor[shi]ppfull Rulers, and Justices of the peace of the said Citty.
The humble petic[i]on of Thomas Osborne of the said Citty a poore aged freeman of the same aged 74 yeares, or thereabouts,
Humbly sheweinge, That whereas your petic[ione]r beinge Allowed 8 d. weekely towards his Relieffe, & support out of the parish of S[ain]t John the Baptist within this Citty beinge a small Considerac[i]on for a poore indigent faithfull souldier in the late vnhappy warrs in his Ma[jes]ties Royall fathers seruice; whereof your poore aged petic[ione]r humbly Craueth further Augmentac[i]on, & that your wor[shi]pps wil be pleased to order the overseers of the poore of the said parish to a more strict observac[i]on, & obedience of your wor[shi]pps order in requireinge them forthwith to pay your poore aged petic[ione]r his Ten weeks Alloweance att 8 d. p[er] weeke behind beinge just 6 s. – 8 d., which your petic[ione]r is greately necessitated for to cleare, & pay for his Lodgeing & other things
And this Considered, yo[u]r poore peitc[ione]r as much bounde to your wor[shi]pps therefore shall alwaies pray &c,
whereas Tho[mas] Osborne had 8 d. p[er] weeke ordered to have 4 d. added.
