The petition of Thomas Newton of Towcester, Northamptonshire, 30 September 1684

To ye hono[ura]ble ye Justices of Peace for ye County of North[amp]ton[shire]
The humble petic[i]on of Thomas Newton of Towcester
Most humbly sheweth
That yo[u]r petic[i]oner haveing faithfully served his late Ma[jes]ty in ye late Warrs in ye Regiment of ye r[igh]t hono[ura]ble the Earle of North[amp]ton had a penc[i]on of Fifty shillings a yeare granted by this Court which hath been for some time suspended & onely a Penc[i]on of fower nobles a year paid him at pr[e]sent
Now forasmuch as yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r is growne very auncient & very lame & not able to doe anything for a lyvelyhood.
Most humbly therefore beseecheth your honors to take his Condic[i]on into yo[u]r tender considerac[i]on and to order yt yo[u]r peticoner may have a penc[i]on of Fifty shillings a year graunted him as formerly hee had
And yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r shall pray &c
