The petition of Thomas Newson of Towcester, Northamptonshire, January 1684

To the Right Worship[fu]ll S[i]r Roger Norwich Barro[ne]tt and the Rest of ye Worship[fu]ll Bench,
The Humble Petic[i]on of Thomas Newson of Towcester
Humbly Sheweth,
That whereas yo[u]r petico[ne]r Serving his Late Ma[jes]tie King Charles the first of blessed Memory in his Warrs whereby his Wounds received therein he was rendered impotent & unable to releiue the necessities of himselfe and Family, The Conside[e]rac[i]on of w[hi]ch being recommended to ye Worship[fu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices moved them to grant me a yearly penc[i]on of Fifty shillings w[hi]ch was a great help to yo[u]r petico[ne]r & his Family: But after some tyme itt was the pleasure of their Worship’s to Suspend part of his penc[i]on and to reduce it to Four Nobles p[er] ann[um] since which time yo[u]r petico[ne]r hath according to his capacity Labour’d to maintaine and supply the great wants of his Family Till now when his age makeing him extremely sensible of his former wants by being vtterly unable to Subsist w[i]thout ye Charity of this Wors[hipfu]ll Bench, whose compassion he prayes may extend to yo[u]r petic[i]o[ne]r by granting him his first yearly penc[i]on of Fifty Shillings: Hee throues himselfe at yo[u]r Worship’s Feet: and Leaues his necessitous Condic[i]on to yo[u]r Worship’s Considerac[i]on w[hi]ch hee hopes will be favorable on yo[u]r petic[i]o[ne]rs Behalfe.
