The petition of Thomas Morris of Cowick, West Riding of Yorkshire, April 1674

To the Right hon[our]able Justices of ye peace Att ye gen[er]all sessions Att Pontefract.
The humble petic[i]on of Thomas Morris.
<Sheweth>
That whereas yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r hath formerly served his late ma[jes]tie King Charles ye first of eu[er] blessed memory In his warres vnder ye Comand of S[i]r George Wentworth, kn[igh]t & Colonell & Maior Mountaine. And hath receiu[e]d many wounds & hurts in his bodye Att ye seige ag[ains]t Bradford & att other places, His bodye also now being broken And hee glad to weare an Iron Trusse to stay & support itt uppe with all, His wife also being dead & leaveing him a Charge of small Children, And hee now growen aged & poore & in noe mann[er] able to mainteine or helpe himselfe or ym.
May itt therefore please yo[u]r hon[ou]rs to grant yo[u]r poore petic[i]on[e]r such Releife as you in yo[u]r wisdomes shall thinke most meet. And yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r shall eu[er] pray.
Wee ye Inha[b]itants of Cowicke doe Certify ye Contents aboues[ai]d to bee true.
