The petition of Thomas Marsh of Warminster, Wiltshire, Trinity 1661

To ye right wor[shipfu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices of ye Peace for ye County of Wiltes[hire] assembled at ye Devizes.

The humble Petic[i]on of Thomas Marsh of Warminster

<Hmbly [sic.]> Sheweth, That in ye tyme of ye late Warre yo[u]r Peticioner lived at Femy Sutton a Covenant Servant w[i]th Mr John Elderton, out of w[hi]ch p[ar]ish a Cart & horses were pressed for his s[ai]d ma[jes]ties service, and the Peticioner & two seruants more (sithence deceased) to drive the same, and in obedience to the same com[m]aund, they attended vppon their s[ai]d charge and being at Lansdowne neere the place where his Ma[jes]ties powder was most vnfortunately fired (by w[hi]ch ye Lord Hopton was hurt) the peticioners hands were exceedingly torne especially his right hand by the same powder, whereby hee is much disenabled to worke for his Maintenance.

May it therefore please yo[u]r wor[shi]pps (the petcioner being a poore man) to p[re]pend & comiserate the petic[i]on[e]rs deplorable condic[i]on And to order for his reliefe as shall seeme meet in yo[u]r wor[shi]ps wisedomes

And as in duty bound yo[u]r Peticio[n]er shall pray &c
