The petition of Thomas Johnes, City and County of Chester, Epiphany 1652

To the Right Wor[shi]p[fu]ll the Justices for the County Palatine of Chester
The humble petic[i]on of Thomas Johnes
Sheweth That your petic[io]n[e]r since the beginninge of these tymes hath been a souldier for the Parliam[en]t and States, And for them hath vndergone many great and dangerous Assaults, beinge ever ready (not him self only but his sonnes also) to advance the good of the Com[m]onwealth And soe it is Right wor[shi]p[fu]ll That your petic[i]oner goeinge into Lancashire against the Com[m]on Enemie there doeinge his vtmost Endeavo[u]r to expell and overcome them that were the disturbers of the peace and tranqillity of the Com[m]onwealth receiued two grievous wounds, the one in his side and the other in his arme, whereby hee is so Maymed that he is not able to gett subsistence for himself and Family as formerly he hath donne And the more is his want and necessity by reason that hee liueinge neere Chester, (himself being in the Parliam[en]t service) by the malignants there was robbed and plundered of all that ever hee had, As by testimony vnder sufficient hands (if need so require) hee can p[ro]duce
His humble request therefore vnto your wor[shi]pps is, That as formerly you have granted the like Curtesies vnto others, soe you would bee pleased that yo[u]r p[e]t[itione]r may haue the yearly Stipend allowed by the States for souldiers maymed in their service yo[u]r p[e]t[itione]r haueing p[er]formed as good service in their behalf as ever did that demande or receiue the same, w[hi]ch granted yo[u]r pet[itione]r shall ever pray for ye welfare of the Com[m]onwealth and yo[u]r worshipps safety &c
