The petition of Thomas Humfrey of Mere, Cheshire, Michaelmas 1645

To the hon[oura]ble the Justices of the peace & deputy leiue Tennants at this pr[e]sent Sessions assembled.
The humble peticion of Thomas Humfrey of Mere one of the Trayned souldiers for the s[ai]d Towne
Sheweth that yo[u]r peit[i]on[er] since the beginnings of the pr[e]sent Warrs hath beene imployde in the p[r]esent service of the Kinge & Parliam[en]t & vppon the late seighe layde ag[ain]st Namptwich had by the enemy in fight his right hand cut of whereby yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r is not onely disinabled for further service w[i]th a Muskett but of the obteyneinge meanes of liuelyhood, that in care & Physicke yo[u]r pet[itioner] spend 20 li. & vpwards, the substance of his whole stocke & estate.
Yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r therefore humbly prayes that dureinge the p[re]sent Warrs hee may haue the next choyce of a Sergeants place, beeinge an expert souldier for Judgm[en]t or order for Annuall meyntenance at the Countreys charge for w[hi]ch he served & ventured his liefe as afores[ai]d And that such yearely allowance may bee payde vnto yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] quarterly for & towards his releefe & support & yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r will ever pray &c
To have a Corporall or Liuetenants place or some alowance.
