The Humble Petic[i]on of Th[o]mas Hooper of Salckcombe in the County of Devon Gunner
<Sheweth>
That yo[u]r poore distressed pet[itione]r hath Faithfully Served his Royall Ma[jes]ty of Ever blessed memory dureing the Late vnhappy Warres in the Capacity of a Gunner in Fort Charles vnder the Command of S[i]r Edmond Fortiscue Kn[igh]t & Governor of the said Fort, And for his Loyalty and Fidelity, suffered deeply to the value of Fowerscore or one hundred pounds which was his whole Estate, besides seuerall Imprisonm[en]ts to the vtter Ruine not only of himselfe, but his aged wife and fowre Children, yo[u]r pet[itione]r being exposed to all missery vnder the late Barbrus tyrant, yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r haueing waitted at London A yeare & halfe euer expecting Some reward; but yo[u]r pet[itione]r was ordered and reffered to yo[u]r wor[shi]pps to receiue yo[u]r wor[shi]pps Order for the reliefe of yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r & his Famually without the which they must vnavoydably perrish
Most Humbly prayeing yo[u]r Wor[shi]pps in tender Considerac[i]on of the premises yo[u]r Wor[shi]pps would be pleased to Commissurate his Sad Condic[i]on as you in Charritty Shall thinck meett and as his case shall merrett
And as in duty bound shall pray for yo[u]r wor[shi]pps
This to be Considered when the maimed solidiers are provided for:
