The petition of Thomas Holford, residence unknown, May 1660

To the Kings Most Excelent Magistye.
The humble Petticion of Thomas Holford
Humbly Sheweth
That Benjamin Holford your Mag[es]t[y’]s pet[itione]rs father went to oxford, and affter many exceptable & faithfull seruices done for your Royall father, he dyed there & left only your Mag[es]t[y’]s pett[itione]r who suffred uerry much affter the death of his father, in regard his grandfather Mr Thomas Farnaby who had the care of him and his estate endured a long time of imprisonment in newgate for the King whereby hee suffered uery much & at the death of Mr Farnaby Mr Edward Ellis who was a gentleman vsher to your Mag[es]t[y’]s Royall father, Had the care of your pett[itione]r but could not deale so well by him as did intend in regard his place was gon & that he was so great a sufferer
Your Mag[es]t[y’]s pett[itione]r & all his nearest relations, & his wiuefs father Capt[ain] John Ball haue endured much trouble & imprisonment & haue been ewer faithfull seruants to your mag[es]t[y’]s father of euer blessed memory & y[ou]r pett[itione]r neuer in arms nor neuer accted any thing against your Royall p[er]son
Y[ou]r Mag[es]t[y]s pett[itione]r humbly prayes that you will be graciously pleased to take into your princely consideration the faithfull seruices & long suffring of his owne & his wiues family & out of y[ou]r royall fauour grant your pett[itione]r A place in your Mag[es]t[y]s seruice as the rest of his frends Haue enjoyed
And your Mag[es]t[y’]s pett[itione]r will euer pray yt your Raigne may be long and prosperous ouer us.
